Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Friday joined foreign ministers from Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states at the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) Meeting in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan. The high-level gathering focuses on regional cooperation, international relations, and key foreign and security policy issues. Pakistan is participating as part of its continued engagement with the regional bloc.

Upon arriving at the meeting venue, Dar received a warm welcome from Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Zheenbek Kulubaev before both leaders exchanged greetings. He later joined fellow foreign ministers for the traditional family photograph ahead of the formal proceedings. The ceremony marked the official opening of one of the SCO’s most important diplomatic meetings.
Earlier, Ishaq Dar attended an informal dinner hosted for the SCO foreign ministers, where participants exchanged views on regional developments and discussed the agenda for the Council of Foreign Ministers meeting. The informal session provided an opportunity for ministers to strengthen diplomatic coordination before the official discussions. It also allowed member states to share perspectives on matters of mutual interest.

The Pakistani delegation is attending the meeting at the invitation of Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Zheenbek Kulubaev. Foreign ministers from Pakistan, China, Belarus, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan are participating in the gathering. Their discussions are expected to focus on enhancing cooperation, addressing regional challenges, and promoting stability among member states.
The Council of Foreign Ministers is the third-highest decision-making forum within the SCO and plays a key role in shaping the organisation’s foreign policy and security agenda. The meeting provides member states with an opportunity to review regional developments and strengthen collaboration across political, diplomatic, and security sectors. Pakistan’s participation reflects its commitment to constructive regional engagement through the SCO.
