
At least 25 people died in floods and landslides caused by torrential monsoon rains across northern and northeastern India. Authorities warned that heavy rainfall is expected to continue. Rescue teams remain engaged in affected areas as the weather system persists.
According to officials, 15 people were killed in separate rain-related incidents in Poonch, Rajouri, and Doda districts of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). Several others remain missing. Emergency responders continue search and rescue operations in the affected districts.

Meanwhile, persistent rainfall triggered multiple landslides in Nagaland, killing nine people. Rescue workers recovered four bodies from debris. In neighboring Assam, one person died as floods affected more than 57,000 residents across seven districts.
The India Meteorological Department said active monsoon conditions are likely to continue across northwestern, eastern, and northeastern regions for the next six to seven days. Therefore, authorities remain on alert for additional flooding and landslides. Residents have been urged to follow official safety advisories.
Meanwhile, neighboring Nepal has also suffered significant monsoon damage since mid-June. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, 27 people have died, one remains missing, and 69 others have been injured. Floods, landslides, heavy rain, and lightning have caused widespread disruption.

Additionally, several highways, including the route linking Kathmandu with Nepal’s southern plains, remain blocked by landslide debris. Police said road clearance operations are ongoing. The weather department forecast further rainfall, with isolated heavy showers expected in several provinces.
The latest disasters highlight the growing impact of the annual monsoon across South Asia. Authorities in both India and Nepal continue monitoring weather conditions and expanding emergency response efforts. More rainfall could increase the risk of flooding, landslides, and transport disruptions.
