Sindh launches Pakistan’s first AI-powered free legal aid chatbot

Published on: July 18, 2026 7:50 AM

The Sindh government has launched Pakistan’s first AI-powered free legal aid chatbot in partnership with the Legal Aid Society (LAS), marking a significant step towards improving public access to justice through digital technology.

The chatbot currently provides free legal assistance in four languages and is expected to be upgraded with voice-based interaction and additional language options in its next phase.

The initiative is part of the Sindh government’s collaboration with the Legal Aid Society, a non-profit organization established in 2014 with financial and institutional support from the provincial Law Department. Since its inception, LAS has provided free legal guidance to more than 600,000 people across Pakistan on a wide range of legal issues.

Alongside the AI chatbot, the Sindh government also operates a free Legal Advisory Call Centre, where High Court-registered lawyers provide legal advice daily from 9:00 am to 1:00 am. The service is available to citizens across Pakistan and also receives calls from Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and overseas Pakistanis.

According to official data, the Legal Advisory Call Centre received more than 66,000 calls between July 2025 and June 2026. Of these, around 27,000 calls were related to civil disputes, while thousands sought legal advice on criminal matters and administrative issues.

During the same period, the call centre received 2,710 calls concerning dowry disputes, child custody, divorce, khula and other family law matters. Karachi accounted for 1,545 of these calls.

The data also shows that 822 callers were under the age of 18, including 191 children from Karachi, highlighting growing awareness of free legal assistance among minors. The largest group of callers belonged to the 18-25 age bracket, with 9,736 calls, while nearly 32% of all callers were aged between 26 and 35.

Officials said the AI chatbot and legal advisory services are aimed at making legal assistance more accessible, particularly for vulnerable and underserved communities, while reducing barriers to obtaining timely legal information and guidance.
