
Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani telephoned Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday and praised Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts that helped facilitate the recent US-Iran agreement. The leaders discussed regional developments, bilateral relations and ongoing peace initiatives. The call underscored growing cooperation between Islamabad and Doha on key regional issues.
According to official sources, the Qatari emir congratulated Pakistan on its successful diplomatic engagement, which contributed to the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran. He commended Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership and reaffirmed Qatar’s support for efforts aimed at promoting peace and stability in the region.
Prime Minister Shehbaz thanked the Qatari leadership for its cooperation and support throughout the mediation process. He said the diplomatic breakthrough was made possible through the collective efforts of Pakistan, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and friendly countries, including Qatar. The prime minister also highlighted the importance of continued collaboration to sustain progress in the negotiations.
Both leaders expressed satisfaction over the first round of technical-level discussions held in Bürgenstock, Switzerland. They stressed the need to protect the negotiation process from disruptions and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting dialogue as the preferred path for resolving regional disputes. The discussions also covered ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the future.
During the conversation, Sheikh Tamim expressed condolences over the death of a Pakistani national in a fire incident at the Barzan gas facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City. Prime Minister Shehbaz thanked Qatar for hosting the Pakistani community and extended an invitation to the emir to visit Pakistan. Sheikh Tamim expressed his desire to undertake the visit later this year, while both leaders agreed to remain in close contact on matters of mutual interest.
