TECH DESK: Video-sharing platform YouTube is introducing a series of interface changes aimed at improving user experience and simplifying the way viewers interact with videos.
According to reports, the updated design focuses on making the video page cleaner and less cluttered, particularly by reorganising the controls and information displayed beneath videos. The changes are being gradually rolled out across the platform.
Under the new layout, when users open a video, the comment section will be more directly accessible beneath the content, while key channel-related options such as subscribing and visiting the channel page will be streamlined. Instead of showing detailed channel information, only the channel logo and username will be prominently displayed.
At the same time, action buttons such as like, dislike, share, and the platform’s AI-powered “Ask” feature will be placed in a single horizontal row next to the channel details. This is intended to make navigation faster and more intuitive.
Less frequently used options, including save, download, and report functions, will be moved into an overflow menu, reducing visual clutter around the main video interface.
The video title will also be made larger to improve readability, especially on smaller screens, reflecting YouTube’s focus on mobile-first design improvements.
A major highlight of the redesign is the increased emphasis on the AI-based “Ask YouTube” feature, which is being made more visible within the interface. The feature is designed to allow users to interact with videos using artificial intelligence tools for quicker information retrieval.
Industry observers say the redesign reflects a broader trend among tech companies toward cleaner interfaces and greater integration of AI-driven features to enhance engagement and user interaction.
The rollout is expected to continue gradually, with users across different regions receiving the updated interface over the coming weeks.
