‘Pakistan Idol’ expected to air in August

Published on: June 19, 2026 11:01 AM

The popular music reality show Pakistan Idol is expected to return in July and air on television in August. Director Nadeem J said the show was delayed due to administrative problems and other disruptions.

Talking about the production process, Nadeem J said the team had put in their full effort and completed about four episodes before the project was interrupted.

“We had finished preparing four episodes before Ramazan, but work slowed down during the month because of external issues, including conflict-related disruptions. Later, problems in managing the project led to it being put on hold,” he said. The director confirmed that work on the remaining episodes is now back on track, with four episodes still left to complete.

These will include episodes 37 to 40 of the season, with post-production efforts currently being re-organised.

“We are hopeful that by the end of July, things will be renewed and the show will go on air in August,” he added.

Nadeem J acknowledged that the scale of Pakistan Idol made execution complex, particularly due to the involvement of multiple stakeholders and international format licensing.

Reflecting on memorable moments from the show, Nadeem J said several performances had a strong emotional impact on the judging panel, which includes prominent Pakistani musicians and industry figures.

“There were performances where judges became emotional. At least three judges were moved to tears during different episodes,” he said, adding that this reflected the talent emerging from the competition.

He stressed that Pakistan’s entertainment sector has seen a gradual improvement in recent years, particularly with the rise of franchised reality formats such as ‘Shark Tank Pakistan’, ‘MasterChef’, ‘Got Talent’ and ‘Rap Icon’.

“If these formats succeed consistently, they will strengthen the industry and attract more investment and sponsorship,” he said. He added that the overall direction of the industry depends heavily on economic and political stability, but expressed optimism about continued growth if current trends continue.
