The Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has revised the schedule for the 2026 Legislative Assembly elections, extending the deadline for the submission of nomination papers following requests from prospective candidates. Under the amended timetable, candidates can now file their nomination papers until 5:00 p.m. on June 23, 2026.
According to an Election Commission spokesperson, scrutiny of nomination papers will begin at 8:00 a.m. on June 24, with the list of validly nominated candidates to be published the same day. Candidates wishing to challenge Returning Officers’ decisions may file appeals between June 25 and June 28, while the Commission will hear appeals on June 29 and June 30 before announcing verdicts on July 1 and July 2.
The revised schedule sets July 3, 2026, as the final date for withdrawal of nomination papers, with the deadline fixed at 2:00 p.m. A revised candidates’ list will be issued on July 4, followed by the allocation of election symbols on July 5. The final list of contesting candidates along with their allotted symbols will also be released on the same day.
The Election Commission confirmed that polling for the AJK Legislative Assembly elections will take place on July 27, 2026. It also clarified that candidates from Poonch (Rawalakot) will submit nomination papers to their respective Returning Officers within the district, where scrutiny will likewise be conducted. The Commission said the schedule was amended to facilitate candidates and ensure public convenience, urging all aspirants to complete the nomination process within the prescribed timeframe.
