Pakistan Peoples Party has initiated contact with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen leadership for the formation of a government in Gilgit-Baltistan, according to party sources. The move comes as political parties explore possible coalition arrangements following recent electoral outcomes in the region.
Sources said the PPP is seeking to build a coalition with opposition parties in order to secure a governing majority in Gilgit-Baltistan. They added that consultations among opposition leaders are expected within the next 24 hours to decide the future political setup.
According to available figures, MWM and two PTI-supported independent candidates have won seats in the region. Sources further claimed that including reserved seats for women and technocrats, the opposition bloc could secure up to five votes, making coalition-building a key factor in government formation.
The political situation in Gilgit-Baltistan remains fluid, with multiple parties engaged in negotiations. Earlier reports suggested that different parties were also exploring alliances to strengthen their position in the 24-member assembly.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reportedly invited the PPP to form the government in Gilgit-Baltistan, while Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has decided to sit on the opposition benches, adding further complexity to the evolving political landscape.
