Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Monday welcomed the Iran-US peace agreement and credited Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts for helping facilitate the breakthrough, paying tribute to the country’s political, military and diplomatic leadership.
In a statement, the chief minister said the agreement reflected Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting peace and stability, adding that history would remember the country’s efforts to help avert economic devastation, bloodshed and a wider global crisis.
She said Pakistan’s diplomacy had opened a new chapter of peace and dialogue, describing the development as a significant diplomatic achievement for the country.
CM Maryam Nawaz said the people of Punjab, along with the entire nation, paid tribute to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar for their leadership and efforts in advancing Pakistan’s diplomatic objectives.
She said the country’s leadership had enhanced Pakistan’s standing in the international community and made the nation proud. “History will remember that when the world needed Pakistan, it rose to the occasion,” she remarked.
The CM said Pakistan’s leadership had helped transform an atmosphere of conflict into one of dialogue and negotiations, contributing to regional and global peace. She added that by supporting efforts aimed at preventing a broader economic and security crisis, Pakistan had rendered a valuable service to humanity. “Pakistan today stands as a symbol of peace, wisdom and responsible leadership for the world,” she added.
Separately, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Monday expressed deep sorrow and grief over the crash of a Pakistan Air Force (PAF) training aircraft near Mardan.
In her message, the CM paid rich tribute to the martyred pilots, Captain Qasim and Captain Talha, who embraced martyrdom in the line of duty. She lauded their sacrifice for the nation and said that their services would always be remembered with respect and honour.
CM Maryam Nawaz extended heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the bereaved families of the martyred pilots and prayed for patience and strength for them to bear this irreparable loss. She also prayed for the swift recovery of those injured in the incident, expressing hope that they would be provided the best possible medical care.
The CM said the nation stands united with the families of the martyrs in this hour of grief and shares their sorrow.
Meanwhile, Maryam Nawaz said that wind power holds immense potential as a sustainable and long-term solution for electricity generation.
In her message on Global Wind Day, the CM reiterated the provincial government’s resolve to promote renewable and non-conventional sources of energy.
The CM said that the energy potential of wind should be fully harnessed to meet growing demand in an environmentally sustainable manner, adding that wind energy could serve as a permanent asset in the province’s future energy mix.
She said that Punjab, particularly the Thal region, offers vast opportunities for wind energy projects and could play a significant role in strengthening the province’s energy security through indigenous and clean resources. She added that Global Wind Day serves as an important reminder to move beyond traditional energy sources and adopt innovative, clean and renewable solutions to address future energy challenges.
CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif said the Punjab government would explore wind power generation opportunities through public-private partnership models to ensure efficient utilization of available resources and encourage investment in the sector. She added that the government was committed to providing a cleaner and healthier environment for future generations by promoting sustainable energy initiatives.
The CM said the purpose of observing Global Wind Day was to raise public awareness about the limitless potential of wind energy and its role in advancing the global renewable energy agenda. She added that wind-generated electricity was crucial for reducing carbon emissions, protecting the environment and mitigating the impacts of climate change.
