Rain in Lahore brings relief, causes brief power outages

Published on: June 13, 2026 2:27 PM

Lahore experienced a sudden change in weather after a dust storm was followed by rainfall on Friday night, bringing relief from intense daytime heat. The showers quickly cooled down temperatures across the city, creating a more pleasant environment for residents after days of extreme weather conditions.

However, the rainfall also caused disruptions in several areas as multiple feeders of the Lahore Electric Supply Company tripped during the storm. As a result, parts of the city experienced temporary power outages, leaving some neighborhoods without electricity for several hours during the night.

According to reports, rain was recorded in several key areas of Lahore, including Defence, Ghazi Road, Ferozepur Road, Walton, Mall Road, Lakshmi Chowk, Gulshan Ravi, Jail Road, Gulberg and Garden Town. Other affected locations included Kalma Chowk, Sanda and surrounding localities where residents also felt the impact of the changing weather.

Meanwhile, citizens welcomed the drop in temperature as the rain followed an intense hot spell earlier in the day. Many people stepped outdoors to enjoy the cooler weather, while others faced inconvenience due to power breakdowns in different parts of the city during the storm.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department forecast that the current spell of rainfall is expected to continue, bringing further showers to Lahore and nearby areas. Authorities advised residents to remain cautious during storms, as strong winds and rain may continue to affect daily routines and urban infrastructure.

Despite the temporary disruptions, the overall weather shift was widely seen as a welcome relief from the recent heatwave. Weather experts noted that such pre-monsoon rainfall patterns are common and often bring short-term cooling along with occasional urban challenges.
