OpenAI prepares major ChatGPT transformation with AI agents

Published on: June 9, 2026 5:21 PM

OpenAI is reportedly preparing one of the most significant changes to ChatGPT since its launch, signaling a shift from traditional chatbot interactions toward a broader platform powered by AI agents and advanced productivity tools. The reported overhaul could arrive within weeks as the company expands the capabilities of its flagship artificial intelligence product.

The planned redesign is expected to place AI agents at the center of the user experience. Unlike conventional chatbots that mainly answer questions, these systems are designed to perform tasks, automate workflows and assist users with a wider range of activities across digital environments.

In addition, coding tools are expected to play a much larger role in the platform’s future direction. OpenAI’s Codex technology, which helps users write, understand and manage software code, is reportedly receiving increased attention as the company seeks to strengthen its position among developers and technical professionals.

Reports also suggest that OpenAI is working toward a unified “superapp” experience that combines AI agents, coding features and productivity tools within a single platform. The goal is to provide users with one destination for completing tasks, automating work processes and building software through web and mobile applications.

The reported changes come as artificial intelligence companies search for stronger and more sustainable revenue models. While chatbots have attracted hundreds of millions of users worldwide, converting that popularity into long-term business growth remains a challenge for many firms operating in the rapidly expanding AI sector.

By emphasizing automation, software development and productivity features, OpenAI appears to be broadening ChatGPT’s role beyond conversation-based assistance. If implemented, the redesign could mark a major step in the evolution of AI platforms, transforming ChatGPT into a more comprehensive digital workspace for both individuals and businesses.
