Dua Lipa’s three-day lavish wedding takes over Palermo

Published on: June 9, 2026 4:45 AM

Dua Lipa’s lavish three-day Palermo wedding has sparked fury among locals – with riled up residents declaring to the singer: “Our city is not for rent.”

Dozens of posters were stuck up in two squares that the 30-year-old pop star is closing off for the £1.3million second leg of her marriage to actor Callum Turner, 36. The happy couple jetted to Sicily, Italy, on Thursday to tie the knot for a second time this weekend – having just celebrated their legal marriage in London.

But Dua now faces a battle against outraged protesters – accusing her of making their home city a “living room” for her rich mates.

Two town squares in Palermo have been closed to the public for the wedding – with nearby residents made to sign non-disclosure agreements.

Roads have been shut down and no drone fly zones are being enforced as preparations begin for the star-studded multimillion-pound extravaganza.

In response, Sicilians have plastered posters in these squares with messages including “Palermo is not for rent” and “Our square is not your living room”.

One said: “Public spaces belong to everyone. We reclaim the right to live them, free from private profit.”

Wedding organisers had ripped the banners down again by this morning. But protesters then hit back again early on Friday after the posters were removed by tagging that slogan with graffiti on a wall, making it harder to scrub off.
