Iran foreign minister contacts Pakistan army chief amid tensions

Published on: June 8, 2026 6:48 PM

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a telephone conversation with Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir to discuss the evolving regional security situation and broader matters of mutual interest. The discussion came as tensions between Iran and Israel continued to escalate across multiple fronts.

Meanwhile, Araghchi expanded diplomatic outreach by contacting several regional and international counterparts, including foreign ministers of Turkey, Britain, France, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. These calls focused on briefing partners about the worsening situation and exploring possible de-escalation efforts through diplomatic channels.

At the same time, regional tensions intensified as Iran and Israel exchanged fresh attacks, raising fears of a wider conflict. Iranian officials reported explosions in cities including Tehran, Tabriz, Karaj and Isfahan, while describing Israeli strikes as responses to earlier Iranian missile launches.

Furthermore, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps confirmed that it carried out ballistic missile attacks on Israeli military targets, claiming damage and fires at several locations. Iranian authorities stated that the strikes were conducted in response to developments in Lebanon and ongoing regional hostilities.

In addition, Tehran maintained that it had supported diplomatic de-escalation efforts but argued that Israeli military actions in Lebanon had undermined peace initiatives. Separately, reports confirmed that a missile was launched from Yemen toward Israel, triggering air raid sirens in Tel Aviv and increasing regional security concerns.

As diplomatic contacts continue, Iran is actively engaging multiple countries in an effort to manage the crisis and prevent further escalation. However, continued military exchanges across several regions are heightening fears that the conflict could expand beyond its current scope.
