Sindh Governor Muhammad Nehal Hashmi and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah have reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring safe, healthy and quality food for every citizen of Sindh.
In their separate messages on the occasion of World Food Safety Day being observed today (Sunday), they said that safe food is a fundamental right and the foundation of a healthy society, strong economy, and sustainable future.
The CM Murad said that the Sindh Government continues to strengthen food safety standards, raise public awareness and ensure the effective implementation of food safety laws across the province.
He said, “Let us all work together to promote hygiene, clean water, and safe food practices for a healthier and brighter tomorrow.”
Meanwhile; Sindh minister for Food Makhdoom Mehboob Uz Zaman, in his special message on World Food Safety Day, said that safe and quality food is the fundamental right of every citizen and that the Sindh Government is taking comprehensive measures to ensure the availability of healthy, safe and quality food for the public.
He stated that there would be no compromise on food quality and that actions against food adulteration mafia, hoarders and sellers of substandard food products would be further intensified to protect consumers from unsafe and unhealthy food items.
The Food Minister said that safe food is not only the foundation of a healthy society but also plays a vital role in building a strong economy. He emphasized that strict compliance with food safety standards is essential at every stage of the food supply chain, including production, storage, transportation and distribution.
Makhdoom Mehboob Uz Zaman said that the Sindh Food Department, in collaboration with relevant institutions, is actively working to monitor food quality, strengthen food safety mechanisms and safeguard public health. He urged citizens to promote the use of safe and quality food and to immediately report any suspicious or substandard food products to the concerned authorities so that timely action can be taken.
The Minister said that under the vision of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, practical measures are being implemented across the province to ensure the provision of safe and quality food to the people.
He added that initiatives aimed at strengthening food security, public welfare and public health are also being pursued in line with the public service agenda of Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
Highlighting the significance of the day, Makhdoom Mehboob Uz Zaman said that World Food Safety Day is observed globally on June 7 under the auspices of the United Nations to raise awareness about food safety and public health. He noted that promoting food security and preventing food-borne diseases have become critical priorities in the modern world and require collective efforts from governments, the private sector, food businesses and consumers alike.
The Sindh Food Minister said that World Food Safety Day serves as an important reminder of our collective and individual responsibilities towards ensuring food safety and protecting public health.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, he said that the Sindh Government would continue to strengthen measures aimed at improving food quality standards, enhancing food safety systems and ensuring the provision of safe, nutritious and quality food to all citizens in order to build a healthier, safer and more prosperous society.
