Interior ministry allocates Rs16bn budget for ongoing projects

Published on: June 2, 2026 6:52 PM

The federal government has proposed a Rs16 billion development budget for the Ministry of Interior in FY2026-27, reflecting an increased allocation of Rs4.5 billion compared to the previous year. However, officials have confirmed that the entire budget will be used for ongoing schemes, with no new development projects included in the upcoming fiscal plan.

According to budget documents, the ministry will focus on completing 22 ongoing development projects across different sectors, including security, infrastructure, and public services. Moreover, policymakers have prioritized continuity over expansion, aiming to ensure timely completion of existing initiatives while improving operational efficiency within the ministry.

Among key allocations, Rs1.5 billion has been earmarked for additional family suites for members of parliament, which is part of a larger Rs7.4 billion housing project that also includes 567 residential units. The initiative is designed to expand accommodation facilities for lawmakers and supporting staff within government housing infrastructure.

Furthermore, Rs2 billion has been allocated for the National Police Hospital project, while Rs1.6 billion has been set aside for the development of a model jail. These investments aim to improve healthcare services for law enforcement personnel and strengthen correctional facilities across the country.

The Safe City programme has also received a significant allocation of Rs2.7 billion under the proposed budget. The project focuses on enhancing surveillance systems, improving public safety, and modernizing law enforcement capabilities through advanced technology, making it a key pillar of the ministry’s security strategy.

Meanwhile, Rs370 million has been set aside for passport biometric systems, Rs330 million for border management upgrades, and Rs370 million for regional passport offices in Sindh, along with Rs200 million for revenue centers in Tarnol and Sihala.
