According to a report by CBS News, the Field Marshal’s recent visit to Tehran played a significant role in advancing negotiations aimed at easing tensions and moving discussions closer to a possible agreement.
The report stated that despite the involvement of several regional stakeholders, including Gulf countries and Lebanon, Pakistan emerged as a key facilitator in helping shape a proposed diplomatic framework between Washington and Tehran.
It further claimed that after Field Marshal Asim Munir’s return from Tehran, a proposed draft agreement was shared with both the Iranian and American leaderships for review. The report added that the Pakistani military chief enjoys the trust of both sides, which has strengthened Islamabad’s role in diplomatic mediation efforts.
According to the American broadcaster, coordination between Pakistan’s political and military leadership has been a crucial factor in supporting dialogue and reducing tensions in the region. The report also highlighted Pakistan’s broader diplomatic engagement during talks held in Islamabad aimed at narrowing differences between the two sides.
The report referred to previous remarks attributed to US President Donald Trump, who had reportedly described the Field Marshal as “my favourite field marshal,” reflecting growing ties and communication between the two countries during the ongoing crisis.
