Israeli airstrikes targeted several areas in southern and eastern Lebanon on Sunday despite an ongoing ceasefire, as regional tensions linked to the wider Middle East conflict continued to escalate.

According to Lebanon’s health ministry, the overall death toll since the conflict intensified in March has risen to more than 3,100 people. Officials said at least two people, including a paramedic associated with Hezbollah’s Islamic Health Committee, were killed in the latest strikes.

The ministry also reported that 11 people, including six women and a child, were killed in an earlier strike on the southern town of Sir al-Gharbiyeh, describing the incident as a “massacre”.

The Israeli military has continued targeting what it describes as Hezbollah positions despite the ceasefire that came into effect in April and was later extended. Meanwhile, Hezbollah has also continued attacks on Israeli forces and border positions using rockets, drones, and artillery fire.

Lebanon’s state media reported Israeli strikes on more than 30 locations across the south and the Bekaa Valley, with smoke seen rising from multiple sites following the attacks.

Israeli authorities also issued evacuation warnings for several villages in southern Lebanon and eastern regions ahead of the strikes.

Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem expressed hope that ongoing diplomatic efforts between the United States and Iran could eventually help end the broader regional conflict, including hostilities involving Lebanon.

However, he rejected direct negotiations between Lebanon and Israel and reiterated Hezbollah’s opposition to disarmament.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said US President Donald Trump had reaffirmed support for Israel’s right to defend itself against regional threats.

The continued violence has added to concerns over regional stability, with fears that clashes involving Israel, Hezbollah, Iran, and other regional actors could further widen the conflict despite ongoing diplomatic efforts.
