Twenty Iranian crew members aboard the seized vessel “Tosca” have safely returned to Iran following diplomatic efforts involving Pakistan, according to Iranian state media reports.

The crew had been detained after the vessel was taken into custody by US authorities. Iranian media stated that the release and repatriation of the sailors became possible through diplomatic coordination between Abbas Araghchi and his counterparts in Pakistan and Singapore.

Pakistan’s role in facilitating the crew’s return was publicly acknowledged by Reza Amiri Moghadam, who thanked Shehbaz Sharif, Ishaq Dar and relevant Pakistani institutions for their cooperation and diplomatic support.

The Iranian envoy praised Pakistan’s humanitarian and goodwill-based efforts, describing them as a positive example of regional cooperation during a sensitive situation involving foreign detainees.

Although details regarding the seizure of the vessel by US authorities were not fully disclosed, the incident had reportedly led to concerns over the welfare and legal status of the Iranian sailors. Diplomatic engagement among the involved countries continued for several weeks before the crew members were finally allowed to return home.

The development comes at a time of heightened regional tensions and increased scrutiny over maritime activities involving Iran and international shipping routes.

Analysts say Pakistan’s involvement reflects its ongoing efforts to maintain balanced diplomatic relations in the region while assisting in humanitarian matters affecting neighbouring countries.

The safe return of the crew has been welcomed in Iran, where officials and families expressed relief following the sailors’ release from custody.
