The killing of Palestinian teens in the West Bank by Israeli forces has raised renewed concern, with reports indicating that minors are being killed at a rate of roughly one per week since the escalation of military operations in the region.

According to data cited by UNICEF, at least 70 Palestinian teenagers, mostly aged 15 to 16, have been killed since January 2025 across the West Bank, with the majority reportedly shot by Israeli forces. The figures mark a sharp rise compared to earlier years, when the rate stood at approximately one minor killed every three weeks.
One of the victims, 15-year-old Youssef Shtayyeh, was killed in the city of Nablus after returning from school. According to eyewitness accounts cited in reports, he was shot near his home during an incident involving Israeli soldiers responding to stone-throwing by youths.
Medical staff who treated the teenager said he suffered a fatal gunshot wound that entered through his back and exited through his chest. Despite emergency efforts, he later died in hospital.
The Israeli military stated that the incident occurred after individuals allegedly threw stones at soldiers, adding that forces followed “standard arrest procedures” before opening fire. The military has consistently described such incidents as responses to what it considers security threats.
Healthcare workers in the region say they have observed a shift in the severity of injuries since the escalation of violence, reporting more fatal wounds to the chest and head compared to earlier years.
Families of victims, meanwhile, have questioned the use of lethal force in such cases, arguing that stone-throwing does not justify deadly response. The issue has become a point of growing international concern as civilian casualties continue to rise.
