A US newspaper has reported that Russia is using the Caspian Sea route to supply drones and other materials to Iran. The report claims the maritime corridor is helping Tehran rebuild military capabilities after recent strikes by the United States and Israel.
According to the New York Times, US officials believe Russia is sending drone components and related equipment to Iran through this waterway. The supplies are reportedly helping Iran restore its drone inventory, which was significantly reduced during recent conflicts.

Officials cited in the report said nearly 60 percent of Iran’s drone stockpile may have been destroyed during recent hostilities. They warned that renewed deliveries could allow Iran to quickly rebuild its unmanned aerial capabilities.
The Caspian Sea is described as a key logistical link between Russia and Iran. Although the two countries do not share a land border, both maintain long coastlines along the inland sea, enabling direct maritime transport.

The report further claims that Russia is also using this route to bypass international sanctions. It says shipments include not only military components but also grain, animal feed, and essential food supplies, some of which previously moved through other regional waterways.
