Wu Yize wins dramatic decider to reach snooker world final

Published on: May 3, 2026 4:29 PM

Wu Yize produced a remarkable comeback to defeat Mark Allen 17-16 in a tense semi-final and secure his place in the snooker world final. The match took place at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, where the young Chinese player showed exceptional nerve under extreme pressure.

The contest remained tightly balanced throughout, with both players exchanging leads in a high-quality battle. Allen appeared close to victory at 16-15 but missed a crucial final black, allowing Wu Yize to level the match at 16-16 and force a dramatic deciding frame.

In the final frame, Wu Yize initially struggled after missing a difficult long red, giving Allen a scoring opportunity. However, the Northern Irish player lost position after a break of 45, which opened the door for Wu to regain control of the table.

Furthermore, Wu Yize capitalized on Allen’s mistake by potting a difficult red and clearing the remaining balls with confidence. His composed finish secured a historic victory and marked his first-ever appearance in a world championship final.

Earlier in the tournament, Shaun Murphy defeated John Higgins 17-15 in another closely contested semi-final. Murphy produced multiple century breaks and held his nerve in the final stages to secure his place in the championship match.

As a result, Wu Yize will now face Shaun Murphy in the final at Sheffield, aiming to become only the second consecutive Chinese world champion after Zhao Xintong. The upcoming final promises a high-intensity battle between youth and experience on snooker’s biggest stage.
