Rising temperatures in Azad Jammu and Kashmir have accelerated glacier and snow melting, increasing the risk of sudden flooding in rivers and streams. Authorities have warned that low-lying areas and riverbanks may face dangerous water surges in the coming days.
The Disaster Management Authority said that rapid melting is already affecting water levels across the region. Officials cautioned that flash flooding could occur without warning in several waterways. The situation is being closely monitored.

At the Chokothi sector along the Line of Control, a sudden rise in river flow was recorded between 12 pm and 1 pm. Authorities said the unexpected increase highlights the growing instability in water levels due to heat.
Officials also suggested that water release from upstream areas in Indian-administered regions could be a contributing factor. However, they emphasized that melting glaciers remain the primary reason for rising river flows.
