Cambridge investigates AS maths paper leak, assures fair grading

Published on: April 30, 2026 7:09 PM

Cambridge International Education has confirmed that an AS Level Mathematics Paper 1 was leaked before the scheduled examination, prompting an immediate investigation into the breach. The board stated that the paper was shared prematurely in violation of strict examination regulations. As a result, officials are now assessing the extent of the leak and its possible impact on students.

Furthermore, the incident involves AS Level Mathematics Paper 12 (9709), which was reportedly circulated across multiple regions including Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Pakistan and South Asia. This widespread distribution has raised serious concerns about exam security during the ongoing examination session. Consequently, the board has launched a detailed review to determine how the breach occurred and who was responsible.

In response, Cambridge International Education emphasized that it is prioritizing fairness and ensuring that no student is unfairly disadvantaged due to the incident. The organization stated that senior officials will decide appropriate next steps after reviewing all available evidence. Meanwhile, it continues to monitor the situation closely to maintain the credibility of its examination process.

Additionally, the board reaffirmed its commitment to protecting academic integrity and ensuring that awarded grades remain reliable for universities and institutions worldwide. It stressed that although such incidents are rare, strict action will be taken against any individuals or centres found involved in malpractice. This includes potential sanctions where evidence confirms wrongdoing.

Moreover, students and parents have expressed concern over the fairness of the examination system following the leak, especially during an active exam season. The situation has sparked wider debate about security measures and transparency in international assessments. However, the board has urged patience while investigations continue and further updates are prepared.

Finally, Cambridge International Education has assured stakeholders that it will provide a detailed update on the investigation by May 7, 2026. It has asked students and schools to remain patient and continue their preparation without disruption. Ultimately, the organization aims to restore confidence in the system and ensure fair outcomes for all candidates.
