Cambridge grants free november resits after june exam breach

In response to recent exam paper leaks, Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) has announced that students affected by the compromised papers can resit those exams free of charge in the November 2025 session. This decision comes after widespread concern from students, parents, and educators over the integrity of the June 2025 examination series.

CIE confirmed last month that portions of three key A-Level question papers had been leaked before the exams. The affected papers include Mathematics Paper 12, Mathematics Paper 42, and Computer Science Paper 22. While the board has said students will receive extra marks for the leaked questions, it is also offering free resits to ensure fairness and provide students another chance to improve their grades.

In an official update posted on Facebook, CIE assured that results will still be released as usual for these syllabuses. However, candidates who sat any of the three compromised papers will have the option to retake them in the next exam window at no additional cost. The board has already informed schools and families and promised further details after the results are published.

Earlier in June, a parliamentary panel was told that the inquiry report into the alleged leaks would be shared after June 16. Though the full findings are still awaited, the free resit offer appears to be part of CIE’s response to growing public pressure for accountability and student support.

During the same exam season, many students also faced heavy schedules, with multiple papers in a single day, which led to stress and complaints. While CIE hasn’t addressed the scheduling concerns yet, this step to allow free resits is seen as a positive move to rebuild trust and offer relief to affected candidates.
