Polio immunisation drive successfully concludes

Published on: April 21, 2026 3:37 AM

The second nationwide polio vaccination campaign of 2026 has been successfully completed, with more than 44.7 million children immunized across Pakistan.

According to the National Emergency Operations Center (EOC), the campaign marked a significant milestone in the country’s ongoing efforts to eradicate polio, ensuring widespread access to life-saving vaccines. Officials credited the tireless efforts of frontline polio workers, who went door-to-door to reach children even in the most remote and high-risk areas.

Alongside polio drops, Vitamin A supplements were also administered to strengthen children’s immunity and improve overall health outcomes. Provincial data shared by the National EOC shows that Punjab led the campaign with approximately 23.03 million children vaccinated, followed by Sindh with over 10.4 million and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with more than 7.15 million children immunized. In Balochistan, over 2.62 million children received polio drops, while Islamabad recorded more than 441,000 vaccinations.

Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir reported over 292,000 and approximately 717,000 children vaccinated, respectively. The National EOC highlighted the crucial role of parents and communities in ensuring the campaign’s success, noting that public cooperation significantly improved coverage.

Authorities also commended the timely and effective support provided by security agencies, which helped maintain smooth operations in sensitive areas. Expressing gratitude to all partners and stakeholders, the National EOC reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining momentum in the fight against polio and ensuring a polio-free Pakistan.
