Pakistan Egypt forces conclude Thunder-II joint counterterrorism exercise

Published on: April 20, 2026 4:11 PM

Military forces from Pakistan and Egypt have successfully concluded the two-week joint military exercise Thunder-II held at Cherat. The training programme focused on strengthening coordination and improving joint operational capabilities between the two allied armies. Officials stated that the exercise aimed to enhance cooperation in counterterrorism operations and tactical planning. Consequently, both forces exchanged valuable operational experience and modern combat techniques during the intensive training sessions.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations, the exercise centred on counterterrorism missions and advanced battlefield procedures. Participants carried out specialised drills designed to improve interoperability between the armed forces of both countries. Furthermore, the training emphasised coordinated planning, rapid response techniques, and modern operational strategies. As a result, the programme helped refine professional skills required for complex security operations.

Combat teams from the Special Services Group of the Pakistan Army and elite units from the Egyptian Special Forces actively participated in the exercise. Throughout the training period, both sides demonstrated strong professional discipline and operational competence. Soldiers conducted simulated missions, tactical manoeuvres, and coordinated combat drills designed to mirror real-world security challenges. Therefore, the exercise provided an important platform for practical learning and strategic collaboration.

Meanwhile, the closing ceremony was attended by senior military officials from both countries who observed the final demonstrations of combat readiness and coordination. The General Officer Commanding of the Special Services Group attended the ceremony as the chief guest. Additionally, Mohamed Saad Abdel Razik, Commander of Egyptian Paratroopers, and Egypt’s defence attaché also witnessed the concluding event. Their presence highlighted the importance of the joint training initiative.

Military officials stated that the exercise significantly strengthened operational cooperation between the armed forces of the two nations. Joint drills allowed soldiers to exchange tactical knowledge and develop mutual trust during complex field operations. Moreover, the programme helped both sides understand each other’s operational procedures and battlefield communication systems. Consequently, the collaboration is expected to improve future coordination during joint security initiatives.

Defence analysts believe that exercises such as Thunder-II contribute to deeper strategic ties between Pakistan and Egypt while also improving regional counterterrorism readiness. Regular joint training programmes help partner militaries develop shared strategies against evolving security threats. Furthermore, such engagements promote professional military relationships and long-term defence cooperation. Officials from both countries expressed commitment to continuing similar collaborative training exercises in the future.
