US Iran talks set for key second round in Islamabad

Published on: April 20, 2026 12:15 PM

Pakistan is once again set to become a focal point of international diplomacy as the second major round of talks between the United States (US) and Iran is scheduled to take place in Islamabad on Tuesday.

According to details, an advance US team has already arrived at Nur Khan Air Base, while a high-level delegation led by US Vice President JD Vance is expected to reach the federal capital later in the day. The delegation also includes special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, as part of the American negotiating team.

US President Donald Trump has confirmed the development, stating that American representatives are already en route to Islamabad. He expressed optimism about the ongoing diplomatic process, saying a framework for an agreement has already been established and that there is a strong opportunity to finalize it.

The White House also described the upcoming talks as an important step forward in efforts to reduce tensions and reach a broader understanding between Washington and Tehran.

In preparation for the high-profile diplomatic engagement, Pakistan has tightened security measures across Islamabad. Authorities have declared the capital a high-security zone, with more than 20,000 security personnel deployed to ensure order and protection for visiting delegations.

The Red Zone and expanded security areas have been sealed off to unauthorized entry, while major hotels including Serena and Marriott have been reserved exclusively for foreign delegations. Public transport services, including the Metro Bus between PIMS and Pak Secretariat, have been suspended until further notice.

Officials say the arrangements are part of an extensive security and logistical plan to facilitate one of the most closely watched diplomatic events in recent months.

As global attention turns toward Islamabad, analysts suggest the outcome of these talks could play a crucial role in shaping regional stability and future US–Iran relations.
