Saudi Arabia has announced strict new entry and stay regulations for Makkah ahead of the Hajj season, limiting access exclusively to Hajj visa holders from April 18.
The Saudi Ministry of Interior has declared that no one except Hajj visa holders will be allowed to stay in Makkah after April 18.
The ministry said that individuals holding Umrah visas, visit visas, or any other type of visa must leave Makkah by April 18.
Authorities warned that staying in Makkah after the deadline without a Hajj visa will be considered a legal offense. Violators could face heavy fines and imprisonment, the ministry said, emphasizing strict enforcement of the rules.
In addition to the stay restrictions, the ministry has also imposed limits on entry. From April 13, foreign residents living in Saudi Arabia are not allowed to enter Makkah without a valid permit.
The Interior Ministry said that permits for entering Makkah are being issued starting today as part of preparations for the upcoming Hajj season.
These measures are aimed at managing the large influx of pilgrims and ensuring safety and organization during the annual pilgrimage.
The ministry also announced that access through Umrah permits will be restricted during the Hajj preparation period.
It said that Umrah visa holders issued permits through the Nusuk platform must depart by April 18, and Umrah access will remain suspended until May 31.
Officials made it clear that no entry or stay in Makkah will be allowed on any visa other than a Hajj visa during this period. The directive applies to all categories of visitors and residents, reinforcing the focus on facilitating Hajj pilgrims.
The restrictions come as Saudi Arabia intensifies preparations for the Hajj season, one of the largest annual religious gatherings in the world.
