Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar on Sunday announcing the end of Islamabad Talks between the United States of America and Iran said that it was imperative that the parties continued to uphold their commitment to ceasefire.
“We hope that the two sides continue with the positive spirit to achieve durable peace and prosperity for the entire region and beyond. It is imperative that the parties continue to uphold their commitment to ceasefire,” the deputy prime minister, briefing the media here on the conclusion of the peace talks.
Dar told the media that he, along with the Chief of Defence Forces and Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir helped mediate several rounds of “intense and constructive” negotiations between the two sides that continued through the last 24 hours and ended on Sunday morning.
He reaffirmed that Pakistan had been and would continue to play its role to facilitate engagement and dialogue between Iran and the United States in the days to come.
Dar thanked both the countries for responding to the call made by the Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif for an immediate ceasefire in the region as well as for accepting Prime Minister’s invitation for holding peace talks in Islamabad.
He said that the US delegation headed by the US Vice President J D Vance and the Iran’s headed by the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Bagher Ghalibaf, arrived on Saturday here to participate in Islamabad Talks.
“On behalf of Pakistan, I would like to express gratitude to the two sides for appreciating Pakistan’s efforts to help achieve the ceasefire and its mediatory role,” Dar added.
Meanwhile, Dar on Sunday spoke with Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan. He shared developments regarding the Islamabad Talks. He stressed the importance of all parties adhering to their ceasefire commitments. Underscoring Pakistan’s role in facilitating the dialogue, he reaffirmed the resolve to continue supporting all diplomatic efforts and sustain dialogue to promote peace and stability in the region and beyond.
Moreover, he spoke with the Foreign Minister of Türkiye, Hakan Fidan and shared developments regarding the ‘Islamabad Talks’ and stressed the importance of all parties adhering to their ceasefire commitments. FM Fidan commended Pakistan’s role in facilitating the dialogue between Iran and the United States. Both reaffirmed their support for all diplomatic efforts to sustain dialogue and promote peace and stability in the region and beyond.
FM Fidan also extended the invitation to DPM/FM for the upcoming Antalya Diplomacy Forum later this month. Later, he briefed his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty, on the ‘Islamabad Talks’ and Pakistan’s continued efforts in facilitating engagement between the parties. He emphasized that it is imperative for all the parties to uphold their commitment to the ceasefire. DPM/FM also reiterated the need for continued dialogue and diplomacy to achieve peace and stability in the region and beyond.
