A delegation of office-bearers from the Bahawalpur Press Club called on Punjab Minister for Information and Culture, Ms. Uzma Bukhari, to discuss issues concerning the journalists’ community.
According to an official press release issued by the Bahawalpur Press Club, the delegation included President Chaudhry Muhammad Saleem, General Secretary Jalaluddin Bhatti, Senior Vice President Murtaza Nazir, and journalists Nadeem Abbas and Imran Rizvi. Punjab Secretary Information, Tahir Raza Hamdani, was also present.
During the meeting, the delegation highlighted the challenges faced by journalists. Responding to their concerns, Minister Bukhari reaffirmed that her office remains open to all journalists and emphasized the Punjab government’s commitment to their welfare. She stated that journalists from Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalpur, and Lahore are all treated equally under government initiatives.
Ms. Bukhari further highlighted the need for journalists in South Punjab to receive the same facilities as those in Central Punjab, noting that the government is actively working toward this goal. She also praised the Bahawalpur Press Club’s annual election process as a commendable democratic practice and underscored the role of press clubs in safeguarding journalists’ fundamental rights. The delegation presented Minister Bukhari with a traditional shawl as a token of appreciation.
