Lahore records average AQI at 73, rain likely

Published on: March 29, 2026 2:51 AM

The Lahore city recorded an average Air Quality Index (AQI) of 73, placing it in the “moderate” category, where air quality is generally acceptable but may pose a slight health risk to sensitive individuals.

Despite this relatively manageable AQI level, the concentration of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) remained a concern, measuring 4.2 times higher than the annual guideline value set by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Elevated PM2.5 levels indicate the presence of harmful microscopic particles in the air that can penetrate deep into the lungs and even enter the bloodstream, potentially leading to respiratory and cardiovascular issues over prolonged exposure. Health experts advise vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing respiratory conditions, to limit outdoor activities and take precautionary measures during such conditions.

Cloudy conditions accompanied by scattered and light rain were observed across the city on Saturday, while the Meteorological Department (MET) forecast similar weather over the next 24 hours.

According to MET officials, intermittent rainfall brought a pleasant change in the weather across various parts of the provincial capital, with cool breezes continuing during the morning hours. They also predicted heavier rainfall in the coming days.

Rainfall was recorded in several areas, including Ferozpur Road, Township, Green Town, Jail Road, Model Town, Mughalpura, Shahdara, Mozang and Peco Road.

The maximum temperature was recorded at 25°C, while humidity levels ranged between 49 and 65 percent.

With the entry of westerly winds into the city, the weather has taken a pleasant turn and there is a possibility of clouds on the horizon of the city.

According to the Meteorological department, intermittent rain has been forecast from Saturday to March 31, which is expected to further improve the weather.

The meteorological department said temperature in the city had been recorded 24 degrees Celsius. According to the experts, the rain in the next few days will reduce intensity of heat.
