CTD arrests 36 suspects in Punjab operations

Published on: March 28, 2026 3:45 PM

LAHORE – The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has conducted 366 intelligence-based operations (IBOs) across Punjab over the past month, resulting in the arrest of 36 suspected militants, officials said on Saturday.

According to a CTD spokesperson, the operations were carried out in multiple cities, including Lahore, Kasur, Jhelum, Chakwal, Okara, Khanewal, Rawalpindi, Chiniot, Toba Tek Singh, Rajanpur, Sialkot, Jhang, Attock, Sahiwal and Faisalabad. The large-scale crackdown was part of ongoing efforts to counter militant activity and maintain law and order in the province.

During the raids, authorities apprehended two high-risk suspects linked to Fitna al-Khawarij from Faisalabad and Jhelum. Officials said the individuals were allegedly involved in planning terrorist activities and were found in possession of explosive materials.

The CTD also recovered a significant cache of weapons and equipment, including improvised explosive device (IED) bombs, five detonators, 34 safety fuses, approximately 61 feet of wiring, pamphlets and cash. The seized materials, authorities said, indicate preparation for potential attacks.

Officials described the operations as part of a broader intelligence-led strategy aimed at dismantling militant networks and preventing acts of terrorism before they occur. Security agencies have increased vigilance in recent months amid concerns over potential threats in various regions.

The CTD reiterated its commitment to ensuring public safety and urged citizens to remain alert and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement authorities.

The latest operations underscore the province’s continued focus on counterterrorism measures, as authorities work to disrupt extremist elements and maintain stability. Investigations into the arrested suspects are ongoing, and further action is expected based on intelligence gathered during the raids.
