Ishaq Dar meets US envoy on region

Published on: March 16, 2026 11:06 PM

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar stressed the need to promote peace and stability in the region during a meeting with US Acting Chargé d’Affaires Zachary Harkenrider. The discussion comes amid escalating Middle East tensions following US and Israeli strikes on Iran. Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts aim to de-escalate conflict and ensure regional stability.

The Foreign Office said the meeting focused on bilateral relations and broader regional developments. FM Dar emphasized the importance of diplomatic engagement and urged dialogue to avoid further escalation. Both sides discussed issues of mutual interest, highlighting the role of diplomacy in managing sensitive regional crises.

Since last month’s US and Israeli airstrikes that killed Iran’s Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and senior officials, tensions have sharply escalated. Tehran responded with retaliatory attacks on US military bases in several Gulf countries, widening the conflict. Pakistan has sought to monitor and mediate developments closely.
