PPP urges relief as petrol prices rise before eid

Published on: March 8, 2026 4:51 PM

The Sharmila Farooqui has expressed concern over the recent rise in petrol prices, urging the government to introduce immediate relief measures ahead of Eid celebrations. She stated that the timing of the increase has created worry among families already facing financial pressure due to rising inflation.

In her statement, the Pakistan Peoples Party leader said the increase in fuel prices, especially the Rs55 per litre hike, will affect household budgets across the country. Moreover, she warned that higher petrol costs will increase transport fares, food prices, and daily essentials, placing additional strain on ordinary citizens.

Farooqui emphasized that expensive fuel directly impacts the cost of vegetables, flour, and other basic commodities. Consequently, she argued that inflation reaches every kitchen, making life harder for low- and middle-income families who are preparing for festive expenses during Eid.

Furthermore, she urged the government to focus on the real conditions faced by people instead of relying only on financial figures in official reports. She explained that economic decisions should consider public welfare, as rising energy prices influence every sector of society.

The PPP leader also said that national economic stability depends on public trust and confidence in policy decisions. Therefore, she called for balanced strategies that protect citizens from excessive price shocks while addressing broader fiscal challenges.

Finally, she demanded that authorities provide meaningful relief in upcoming economic policies, especially during a period when families expect joy and celebration. She stressed that responsible governance requires prioritizing citizens’ needs to prevent further hardship caused by inflation and fuel price increases.
