Punjab approves additional funds for VIP Gulfstream G500 operations

Published on: March 4, 2026 3:14 PM

The Punjab government has approved an additional allocation of Rs86.15 crore to cover operational and training expenses for its new VIP Gulfstream G500 aircraft. Officials stated that the supplementary grant is intended to support pilot and engineer training, routine operations, and maintenance requirements. The funding decision reflects rising costs associated with the sophisticated aircraft and ongoing efforts to ensure full operational readiness. Authorities emphasized the importance of proper training for safe and efficient flight operations.

Pilots assigned to the VIP aircraft are required to attend refresher courses in the United States every four to six months, with these training missions projected to cost Rs6.51 crore. Additional refresher course expenses are expected to require another Rs14.33 crore to cover extended programs and certifications. Officials noted that continuous training ensures that pilots maintain the highest safety standards while operating advanced aircraft systems. This investment underscores the government’s commitment to professional development for aviation personnel.

Operational subscriptions and program costs for the Gulfstream G500 will require Rs49.78 crore in extra funding, while fuel expenses are projected to rise by approximately Rs5 crore. Reports indicate that the aircraft consumes up to 2,100 liters of fuel per flight hour, significantly increasing overall operational costs. Moreover, insurance expenses for the new VIP jet are estimated to grow several times higher than previous allocations, with Rs6.40 crore specifically earmarked for coverage. These measures ensure the aircraft remains fully insured against potential risks.

Three pilots have been deputed from the Pakistan Air Force for VIP flight duties, receiving a monthly flying allowance of Rs0.75 million. The government is also preparing to recruit additional chief mechanics and aircraft technicians to support expanded operations. Technical staff and consultants will require an extra Rs50 lakh for their services, while spare parts imported from the United States will incur import duties and freight charges totaling Rs18 lakh. These steps aim to maintain operational efficiency and safety.

Furthermore, the VIP flight crew will receive new computers, scanners, and IT equipment, while additional government vehicles and maintenance costs will support pilot mobility. Routine operational needs, including cleaning, maintenance, and other essential services, have also increased. Authorities highlighted that the combined measures are critical for managing a state-of-the-art Gulfstream G500 jet, reflecting the high costs associated with modern VIP aviation programs. The supplementary funding ensures uninterrupted operations and enhanced safety standards.
