GLF to become lasting cultural legacy for Gujrat

Published on: March 4, 2026 1:28 PM

GLF

GUJRAT – The Gujrat Literature Festival (GLF), a vibrant student-led initiative that has flourished over the past two years, is now set to evolve into a permanent, district-supported cultural festival.

This landmark development positions Gujrat as a regional hub of ideas, dialogue and cultural exchange, modelled on nationally recognized platforms such as the Lahore Literary Festival, Think Fest and the Faiz Festival.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Office of the Deputy Commissioner Gujrat, University of Gujrat (UoG), Think Fest and Beaconhouse School System – Gujrat Campus – at Hafiz Hayat Campus of the University of Gujrat on Tuesday.

The MoU signing ceremony was attended by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zahoor-ul-Haq (Tamgha-e-Imtiaz), Deputy Commissioner Noorulain Qureshi, Mr Kashif Hussain, Mr Hussain Anwar, Miss Sharmeen Rafique and Director SSC Miss Shama Tahseen, reflecting a shared commitment to making GLF a lasting cultural legacy for Gujrat.

Under this partnership, UoG will assume full custodianship of GLF, hosting it annually as a flagship city-wide literary event. Think Fest will provide strategic intellectual guidance and national visibility, while Beaconhouse Gujrat continues as the founding partner, ensuring strong student and youth engagement. The District Government will extend civic patronage and facilitation, reinforcing GLF’s inclusive and non-partisan character.

The festival will feature panel discussions, keynote talks, book launches, cultural sessions and student-led dialogues, showcasing Gujrat’s rich heritage and creative talent. A Steering Committee with representation from all parties will oversee governance, ensuring transparency and sustainability.
This collaboration marks a historic step in institutionalizing GLF as a permanent cultural platform, celebrating literature, critical thinking and civic dialogue in Gujrat.
