PM, Erdogan discuss Middle East tensions

Turkiye will contribute to re-establishment of Pak-Afghan ceasefire, Erdogan tells PM Shehbaz - Pakistan - DAWN.COM

Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif held a telephonic conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday evening to discuss the rapidly evolving situation in the Middle East and broader regional developments.

During the call, the prime minister expressed deep concern over the escalating crisis in the region. He strongly condemned the recent Israeli attack on Iran, as well as subsequent strikes reported in other brotherly Gulf countries. He stressed that such actions risk further destabilising an already volatile region and could have far-reaching consequences.

The leaders discussed the Türkiye-Pakistan bilateral relations as well as regional and global issues.

The prime minister apprised President Erdogan of his recent outreach to the leadership of Gulf nations, reaffirming Pakistan’s full solidarity with them in the face of emerging security challenges. He reiterated that Pakistan stands ready to play a constructive and responsible role in efforts aimed at de-escalation and peaceful resolution of the crisis through dialogue and diplomacy.

Both leaders underscored the importance of exercising maximum restraint by all parties to prevent further escalation. They emphasised the need for collective efforts to promote stability, safeguard civilian lives and maintain regional peace.

The conversation also covered recent developments in Afghanistan. Prime Minister Sharif took the Turkish president into confidence regarding Pakistan’s perspective on the evolving situation and ongoing diplomatic engagements. The two sides agreed to maintain close coordination and continue consultations on matters concerning regional security.

The leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest. They agreed to remain in close and frequent contact as they pursue joint efforts to promote peace, stability and constructive engagement across the region.
