Russia’s Deputy Security Council Chairman Dmitry Medvedev warned that World War III could break out if U.S. President Donald Trump continues his “insane course” of regime change. Speaking to TASS, he called recent U.S. and Israeli actions against Iran a “war to preserve global dominance” and criticized the decision as a grave strategic mistake.
Medvedev stressed that Trump’s choices put all Americans at potential risk, especially after the assassination of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He said Iran’s Shia population of nearly 300 million now sees Khamenei as a martyr, likely accelerating Tehran’s nuclear ambitions. He described Iran as an “ancient civilization” capable of waiting for the right moment to respond effectively.

He added that the vulnerability of U.S. and Israeli officials has significantly increased since Iran declared a holy war. Medvedev accused European nations of “toadyism and vileness” for supporting U.S.-Israeli actions, warning that such behavior fuels further global instability. He also criticized the International Olympic Committee, suggesting it should be dissolved and rebuilt following its historical principles.
Medvedev further warned that any event could trigger a larger global conflict, emphasizing that there are no safeguards against reckless decisions by Western leaders. He compared the potential devastation of a nuclear war to Hiroshima and Nagasaki, noting that the consequences would be far worse than past conflicts. He said societal consolidation in Iran, spurred by U.S. aggression, would strengthen Tehran’s resolve.

On broader geopolitical issues, Medvedev acknowledged risks in Russia-Ukraine negotiations, warning Moscow could be “coaxed” into talks to allow Ukraine to reinforce its positions. He concluded that the U.S. fears Russia and understands the cost of nuclear conflict, but reckless policies could still spark uncontrollable escalation, potentially igniting a major global war.
