Traffic authorities shut down a major thoroughfare in Karachi on Tuesday, citing the prevailing security situation, as restrictions on public gatherings continued across the province.

According to an early morning alert issued by the Karachi Traffic Police, both sides of MT Khan Road were closed from the PIDC signal to Jinnah Bridge. The closure was announced at 5:38am and described as a security measure amid ongoing tensions in the city.
The move follows violent protests on Sunday that left 10 people dead after demonstrations erupted over reports of the assassination of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in alleged US-Israeli attacks. Authorities have since extended a ban on gatherings and rallies across Sindh to prevent further unrest.
To ease disruption, traffic from PIDC was diverted toward Khajoor Chowk and Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed Road, while vehicles coming from Jinnah Bridge were rerouted to II Chundrigar Road.
However, by 9:21am, a second alert warned of congestion along II Chundrigar Road from Jinnah Bridge toward Tower and Shaheen Complex due to the ongoing closure. Officials said traffic personnel were deployed to manage the flow and minimise delays.

Commuters were advised to contact the Traffic Helpline at 1915 for alternate routes and to follow updates on FM 88.6. Authorities stressed that the measures were precautionary and would remain in place until the security situation stabilises.
A similar closure had been imposed a day earlier but was lifted later in the evening.
