Islamabad red zone access limited, ITP advises alternative routes

Published on: March 2, 2026 4:07 PM

Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) announced that access to the Red Zone will remain restricted, allowing entry only via Margalla Road and the route through Marriott Hotel. All other points have been closed as part of heightened security arrangements. Authorities emphasized that these measures are necessary to ensure public safety and smooth traffic flow during sensitive operations or events in the area.

Commuters approaching from Club Road are advised to use Kashmir Chowk, Srinagar Highway, and Seventh Avenue before proceeding to Margalla Road. The ITP urged drivers to follow the designated route strictly to avoid delays and maintain orderly movement within the capital’s key administrative zone. These alternative routes are part of a coordinated traffic management plan.

Similarly, travelers coming from Bhara Kahu should follow Kashmir Chowk, Srinagar Highway, Seventh Avenue, and Margalla Road to reach the Red Zone. Officials highlighted that deviation from approved routes could result in congestion and security complications, urging motorists to cooperate fully with traffic authorities to ensure seamless passage.

The ITP official further stated that all non-essential access points remain sealed until further notice. Citizens were encouraged to stay updated with real-time advisories through ITP FM 92.4 and make use of emergency and traffic helplines for guidance, including “Pucar-15” and 1915. The advisory aims to keep both traffic and security operations efficient.

Authorities stressed the importance of public cooperation and adherence to the advisory, particularly for office-goers, visitors, and commercial traffic. Law enforcement assured that the measures are temporary and implemented to minimize risks in high-security areas while maintaining organized traffic movement.

ITP confirmed continuous monitoring of all routes leading to the Red Zone and promised prompt updates on any changes. Officials urged citizens to plan their journeys in advance and remain patient, reinforcing that the advisory is crucial for maintaining safety, order, and effective management of the capital’s sensitive corridors.
