Explosions shake Eastern Riyadh amid escalating Gulf tensions

Published on: March 1, 2026 4:55 PM

Residents and correspondents in Riyadh reported hearing loud explosions in the eastern part of the city on Sunday, as regional tensions intensified. Witnesses described multiple strong bangs followed by visible smoke rising in the area. The incidents occurred during ongoing retaliatory exchanges across the Gulf region. Consequently, local authorities began monitoring the situation closely.

According to residents, the explosions created alarm in nearby neighborhoods, prompting many people to seek information from official channels. Some witnesses said they observed smoke clouds after the blasts, although authorities have not yet confirmed damage details. Emergency services reportedly increased their readiness in response to the reports. Therefore, security forces expanded their presence to assess potential risks.

The sounds were also heard by journalists in the capital, who confirmed that the blasts appeared to originate from the eastern sector. Officials have not immediately released a full statement regarding the source of the explosions. Meanwhile, investigators continue gathering information to determine whether the incidents caused injuries or infrastructure damage. As a result, the situation remains under review.

The developments follow renewed military action in the region after the United States and Israel launched strikes against Iran. The attacks escalated tensions and increased fears of broader confrontation across the Middle East. Diplomatic efforts to resolve long-standing disputes have faced additional pressure amid the latest exchanges. Consequently, hopes for immediate de-escalation have weakened.

Regional observers warn that continued retaliatory actions could further destabilize security conditions across Gulf countries. Governments in the area have heightened alert levels and are coordinating with defense agencies to maintain stability. Additionally, officials urge citizens to rely on verified updates and avoid spreading unconfirmed reports. Ultimately, authorities continue monitoring events as tensions persist across the region.
