Macron urges UN Security Council on Iran

Published on: February 28, 2026 10:00 PM

French President Emmanuel Macron called for an urgent United Nations Security Council meeting. He warned that the US and Israeli strikes on Iran could seriously threaten international peace and security. Macron emphasized that immediate action is required to prevent further escalation.

Macron stated on social media platform X that “the current escalation is dangerous for everyone” and must stop. He urged the Iranian regime to engage in good-faith negotiations regarding its nuclear and missile programs. He stressed that halting destabilizing activities is essential for Middle East security.

The call comes after coordinated US and Israeli strikes on Iranian cities, which President Donald Trump described as major combat operations aimed at neutralizing threats. The strikes also intend to give Iranians a chance to challenge their leadership. The operations have sharply increased regional tensions.

Macron’s intervention highlights France’s concern over the broader consequences of the conflict. He urged the international community to seek diplomatic solutions and prevent further civilian casualties. European and Middle Eastern governments are closely monitoring developments.

Analysts note that the UN Security Council could play a crucial role in de-escalation. Macron’s call reflects the need for urgent dialogue to stabilize the region. Continued escalation risks broader conflict, potentially impacting global trade and energy markets.
