Tarar says Taliban-terror nexus exposed

Published on: February 27, 2026 10:00 PM

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar on Friday said Afghanistan’s “unprovoked attacks” exposed a clear nexus between the Taliban regime and terrorist groups. He said Pakistan responded decisively through Operation Ghazab Lil Haq. The escalation matters as cross-border violence threatens regional security and civilian safety.

Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, Tarar said Pakistani forces targeted key installations in Kabul, Kandahar, and Paktia. He said security forces repulsed insurgents at 53 border locations. According to officials, the operation inflicted heavy losses while avoiding civilian harm.

Tarar alleged that Afghan soil was being used to train and facilitate militants targeting Pakistan. He said attackers fled after being neutralised, leaving behind weapons and bodies. He linked recent suicide and terrorist attacks in Pakistan to elements operating from across the border.

Moreover, Tarar described the Afghan Taliban government as illegitimate and accused it of ruling through repression. He criticised restrictions on women, minorities, and basic freedoms. He claimed the regime uses religion to justify authoritarian control and protect vested interests.

The minister said Pakistan’s response was lawful and necessary to defend its sovereignty. He reiterated that operations would continue until desired objectives were achieved. He added that Pakistan remains committed to eliminating terrorism and extremist ideology.
