HEC launches global faculty programme to boost Pakistani universities

Published on: February 27, 2026 4:00 PM

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has launched a revamped Faculty Exchange Programme to enhance teaching and research opportunities for Pakistani university faculty. The initiative aims to strengthen academic collaboration with leading international institutions, providing professors with global exposure. By facilitating international teaching and research experiences, the programme seeks to elevate Pakistan’s higher education standards and promote innovative learning practices across the country. Officials emphasized that this effort aligns with HEC’s long-term vision for academic excellence and international engagement.

Under the programme, Pakistani professors will have the opportunity to teach and conduct research at prestigious universities abroad. In return, foreign faculty from technologically advanced countries will visit Pakistan to deliver specialized courses at local institutions. The exchange is designed to foster knowledge transfer, collaborative research, and exposure to global teaching methodologies. HEC officials said such initiatives will help faculty bring back international expertise to improve curricula and research capabilities.

Visiting international professors are expected to teach at Pakistani universities for periods ranging from two to sixteen weeks. During these visits, they will deliver lectures, supervise research projects, and mentor students, providing first-hand experience of international academic standards. Students will benefit from a broader perspective on contemporary research techniques, critical thinking, and cross-cultural academic interactions. The programme also aims to encourage joint publications and collaborative research outputs with global faculty.

The initiative plans to introduce modern courses at undergraduate, master’s, and PhD levels across participating universities. These courses will include emerging subjects and cutting-edge technologies, enhancing the quality of education and equipping students with skills required for a competitive global job market. HEC emphasized that this will help Pakistani universities align with international academic trends and produce highly qualified graduates.

HEC officials highlighted that the programme is part of a broader effort to internationalize Pakistani higher education. By engaging faculty and students with global academia, the programme aims to create world-class learning environments and boost research innovation. The exchange is also expected to promote long-term collaborations between Pakistani institutions and foreign universities, strengthening Pakistan’s position in global education networks.

Officials encouraged universities to actively participate in the programme and nominate deserving faculty members for international placements. They emphasized that such exposure will not only benefit faculty and students but also contribute to Pakistan’s research capacity, academic reputation, and overall higher education ecosystem. The initiative is a significant step toward bridging domestic and global academic standards.
