Two policemen martyred in Bhakkar suicide blast

Published on: February 24, 2026 11:00 PM

Two policemen were martyred in a suicide attack at a checkpost in Bhakkar district, Punjab, on Tuesday evening, officials said. The blast also injured one police officer and three passersby, highlighting ongoing security challenges in the region. The attack affects local law enforcement and raises concerns for public safety along key border areas.

Bhakkar District Police Officer Shahzad Rafiq said the suicide bomber detonated explosives near the Dajil checkpost while officers were conducting a search operation to maintain law and order. The deceased were identified as Muhammad Faheem and Muhammad Shehbaz, and the injured officer as Arshad. The identities of the injured civilians remain unknown.

The injured were taken to District Headquarters Hospital for treatment. Authorities confirmed that the Dajil checkpost lies at the border of Dera Ismail Khan and Bhakkar, making it a sensitive security zone prone to militant attacks.

President Asif Ali Zardari strongly condemned the attack, expressing grief over the deaths and offering condolences to the bereaved families. He also prayed for the swift recovery of those injured in the blast.

The attack coincided with a separate incident in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kohat district, where six law enforcement personnel, including a deputy superintendent of police, were martyred in a terrorist attack on a police vehicle. The incidents underscore heightened threats to security personnel across Pakistan.
