
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to arrive in Washington, DC, on February 18, where he will attend the inaugural meeting of the Gaza Peace Board a day later, diplomatic sources said.
The first meeting of the Peace Board will be hosted by US President Donald Trump on February 19 in Washington. The summit is expected to focus on strengthening the ceasefire in Gaza and mobilising international funding for the reconstruction of the war-affected territory.

According to sources, Field Marshal General Asim Munir is also likely to visit Washington during the same period, though no official details regarding his engagements have been disclosed. The parallel visits underline the importance Pakistan is placing on high-level diplomatic engagement amid evolving regional and global developments.

The meeting of the Gaza Peace Board will be held at the US Institute of Peace and will bring together representatives from a broad group of countries. Participants include Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar and Bahrain, along with Türkiye, Hungary, Morocco, Kosovo, Albania, Bulgaria, Argentina and Paraguay.
In addition, representatives from Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Indonesia and Vietnam will also be part of the Peace Board, reflecting a diverse international coalition aimed at supporting stability and reconstruction efforts in Gaza.
Diplomatic sources said discussions at the summit will centre on ensuring the sustainability of the ceasefire, preventing further escalation and securing financial commitments for rebuilding critical infrastructure in Gaza. Permanent membership of the Peace Board requires a contribution of $1 billion, highlighting the scale of resources being sought for long-term recovery and development.

The proposal to establish the Gaza Peace Board was presented during the World Economic Forum in Davos and subsequently approved in January 2026. US President Donald Trump is currently serving as chairman of the Board.
Pakistan’s participation in the inaugural meeting signals its continued engagement in diplomatic initiatives related to peace, humanitarian support and reconstruction in conflict-affected regions, particularly in the Middle East.
