
China has unveiled the world’s largest electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft, named Matrix, marking a major leap in aviation as the country pushes hard to lead the fast-growing low-altitude economy.
Developed by Chinese aviation startup AutoFlight, the five-tonne aircraft is backed by battery giant CATL and reflects China’s ambition to dominate flying cars and next-generation electric air transport.

The Matrix features a 20-meter wingspan and comes in passenger and logistics variants, carrying up to ten people, which significantly exceeds the capacity of most existing eVTOL aircraft worldwide.
Meanwhile, AutoFlight stands among leading Chinese eVTOL players supported by the government, which is setting regulatory frameworks and plans to introduce hundreds of low-altitude aviation standards by 2030.

Founded in 2017, AutoFlight reports passenger transport now makes up 70% of demand and expects certification soon, while targeting international markets across Asia and the Middle East.
