Security forces on Thursday launched a large-scale operation in Domel tehsil of Bannu district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, targeting militant hideouts amid rising attacks on local communities and security personnel.

The operation, focused on the Sperka and Kotka Akbar Ali Khan areas, has involved more than 25 quadcopter strikes, with heavy exchanges of fire reported. Continuous aerial surveillance using drones and helicopters is being carried out, underscoring the operation’s sensitive nature. Security forces have cordoned off the area to conduct combative operations aimed at clearing militants and restoring law and order.

Earlier this week, two militants were killed in an exchange of fire with police in the Domel area, with weapons and ammunition recovered from their possession. The operation comes in the wake of several recent violent incidents, including the killing of four members of a local peace committee on January 13 in Gulbadin Landi Dak. According to district police officials, the victims were travelling in a vehicle when armed assailants opened indiscriminate fire.

Bannu district has witnessed repeated security incidents in recent months, with both civilians and local security actors targeted amid a broader surge in militant activity. Violence has included attacks on police personnel and jirga members, prompting targeted operations across multiple localities to disrupt militant networks and safeguard communities.

Authorities have emphasised that the current operation is part of ongoing efforts to neutralise threats and ensure the safety of residents. The situation in Domel remains fluid, with security forces maintaining a strong presence while conducting clearance operations and monitoring militant movements.

Officials stated that the primary goal is to eliminate militant strongholds and restore stability in the region, while minimizing risks to civilians.
