On the directives of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, a Monitoring and Evaluation (MEC) team of the Planning and Development Department conducted a detailed inspection of the Korangi Causeway Bridge Project, reaffirming the provincial government’s commitment to quality, transparency, and timely completion of public infrastructure schemes.
The inspection visit was led by Director General (MEC) Altaf Hussain Sario, along with Engr Aurangzeb Vistro (RMEO Karachi) and Engr. Imran Memon, if the Scheme titled “Construction of Korangi Causeway Bridge” is under construction with an approved cost of Rs. 6,135.146 million.
During the visit, the monitoring team reviewed construction progress and quality standards in coordination with the technical team comprising Engr. Junaid Siddiqui (DPD, Mega Projects – KDA), Engr. Kamran (AEE, Mega Projects) and Engr. Minhaj Uddin Nasri. On-site quality assurance tests were conducted, including Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) through Schmidt Hammer to verify concrete compressive strength. Detailed measurements of the bridge’s length, width, median, and footpaths were also carried out across the entire 1.4-kilometre span.
According to the MEC report, the project has achieved 96 per cent physical progress, while 78 percent financial expenditure has been incurred. Although the revised approval sets the completion timeline before June 2026, the bridge is nearly complete and expected to be opened for public use within the coming weeks, with minor remaining works scheduled to be completed within three weeks.
Consultants also presented detailed drawings and the testing regime to the monitoring team. Overall, the work was found to be satisfactory. However, the MEC team highlighted a few minor issues and issued directives to the executing agency for prompt rectification. These include the immediate execution of stone riprap to safeguard the approach embankments, correction of minor pavement marking deficiencies, rectification of asphalt undulation at an expansion joint, and completion of signposting to enhance engineering aesthetics and safety.
The Chief Minister Murad Shah has emphasised that no compromise on quality will be tolerated in public welfare projects and has directed that all tests be conducted in accordance with international standards. He reiterated that the Korangi Causeway Bridge is one of Karachi’s important infrastructure projects and will significantly improve urban connectivity and commuting convenience for citizens.
The Chief Minister further stressed that engineering excellence, public safety, and timely completion remain top priorities, warning that any negligence in development projects will be deemed unacceptable.
