Authorities in Kohat have directed undocumented Afghans to leave the district voluntarily within the stipulated deadline under the federal government’s repatriation policy, warning that strict legal action will follow in case of non-compliance.

The directive was conveyed during a jirga held with Afghan maliks and community elders on Thursday. Addressing the gathering, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Baydar Bakhsh said undocumented residents had been given a final opportunity to return voluntarily, stressing that the government’s policy would be implemented without ambiguity.
He warned that after the deadline, those remaining illegally would face arrest and other legal measures. However, he assured the elders that the authorities would provide full cooperation, including assistance with documentation and transport, to ensure that the repatriation process was completed in a disciplined, coordinated and peaceful manner.
The ASP also informed participants that Afghan nationals could re-enter Pakistan in the future through legal channels after obtaining valid visas from their home country.
Separately, the Kohat district administration has launched strict measures to prevent encroachments in and around Afghan refugee camps as part of efforts to facilitate orderly repatriation. Deputy Commissioner Rahimullah said Section 144 had been imposed on state and provincial properties to prohibit encroachments and unauthorised occupation.
He said ownership claims, trespassing or illegal use of land within the camps were strictly banned, warning that any violation would invite immediate legal action. The administration, he added, was committed to safeguarding public assets and ensuring the writ of the state.

Officials said the measures were aimed at curbing illegal activities and maintaining law and order during the repatriation process. Citizens and community representatives were urged to cooperate with authorities to ensure the exercise was carried out smoothly and transparently.
The repatriation drive forms part of the broader government initiative to regulate the presence of undocumented foreign nationals in the country and address security and administrative concerns.
